No Impact Man Book Winner & Discussion

Ready to start reading No Impact Man with me? Do you have your book yet (borrowed or new or electronic?) Oh, wait, one of you doesn’t. And that person is Erin, aka Conscious Shopper, who is the winner of the give-away. Erin, email me your mailing address so I can send the book to you.

I’m excited that so many people are interested in reading and discussing this book with me. But for those who don’t have time to do it right now, don’t worry. Crunchy Chicken is also going to be discussing it on her blog in a few weeks. Anyone else planning a review or discussion on their blog? Let me know and I’ll link to you.

I want to get started really digging into the book next week after everyone’s had time to get a copy in their hot little hands. In the meantime, how about doing an at-home project? As some of you know, the first thing No Impact Man did before actually beginning his one year was to collect his garbage for a week and analyze it. Sound familiar?

Now would be a perfect time to take the Show Your (Plastic) Trash Challenge, don’t you think?

Simply collect and tally your plastic waste for one week, without beating yourself up about it, and then answer a few questions. If you can take a photo, even better! When you’re done, contact me and we’ll get your challenge results posted on the site. Here are the complete rules of the challenge.

    3. So, about the challenge – how do I deal with the trash from my business and my classroom? Do those count? Or is this just household waste?

    Tiffany, the way you take part in the challenge is really up to you. If I were you, I would only count plastic that I generated. As a teachers, I wouldn't count plastic waste brought into the classroom by others. In my business, I would count plastic packaging from supplies, but I'd probably keep it separate from the household waste. As I've mentioned here before, I do try and urge suppliers not to send me anything in plastic.

    The bottom line is that how you choose to do it is completely up to you. It's your challenge for your benefit.

    6. Hi Beth! I will take you up on discussing No Impact Man AND on joining in on the Show Your Trash Challenge. I'll email you my results when I do it (probably next week). In the meantime, I'll seek out the book and start reading!
